Friday October 24,2008 8.00am Registration 8:30am TRM Annual General Meeting 9:15am Introduction by TRM President 9:30am – 12:00pm KEY NOTE ADDRESS If Walt Disney Ran Your Recreation Department Michele Nolta This uplifting session is based on concepts from Fred Lee’s book If Disney Ran Your Hospital, 9 ½ Things you Would Do Differently. You will go away with 9 ½ ways to improve your recreation department! Inspirational and practical ideas will be presented and playful teaching modalities will be used. Objectives By completion of this session the learner will be able to:
12:00pm – 1:00pm Hot Buffet Lunch at Altos 1:00pm – 2:30pm 1st Concurrent Sessions A1: Meditation for Relaxation Pamela Thrift Enjoy this time of relaxation and learn techniques and experience a guided meditation that will assist you in relaxing, gaining insight and assisting your body in healing. No previous meditation experience necessary. A2: Creative Dance Kalyn Falk If you can breathe, you can dance. This session will include a simple warm up, a few exercises to wake up your body and an extended time to "get your groove on". Bring a water bottle and comfortable clothes and leave your inner critic behind!

Success with Paper and Time Organization Michele Notla Description Keeping paper and time manageable is a unique challenge for many recreation professionals. This session will prove that getting organized can actually be enjoyable and can help to promote career success. Participants will receive some tools they need for paper control, learn strategies to prioritize tasks, and develop solutions to dealing with "time gobblers". We will study our own organization personalities, and have the chance to practice some new techniques learned for both paper and time management Objectives

11:00am – 12:30pm 1st Concurrent Sessions B1: Drum Circle Workshop Tim Church Participating in a drum circle is a communal, team building event that requires focused listening and cooperation, which leads to group awareness. It unifies body and mind and gives us an opportunity to trust our intuition. It uplifts the spirit, relieves stress, and allows healing to take place. Plus, it is a lot of fun. . |

3:00pm – 4:30pm KEY NOTE ADDRESS Making Sense, Enriching the Sensory Environment Michele Nolta Come learn how recreation professionals can take the lead to enrich the care center environment. The approaches make use of a fresh philosophy, seasonal themes, teachable techniques, and inexpensive equipment. Benefits extend from our most frail residents to our most capable residents and our efforts can even enhance staff teamwork and job satisfaction. Objectives By completion of this session the learner will be able to:
4:30pm – 5:15pm Wine & Cheese 5:15pm -5:45pm Entertainment by Insisto Come and enjoy Insisto - Imagine a percussionist, a jazz singer, a kit drummer and a choreographer playing and exploring together and you’ve got Insisto. Insisto is latin for "on a journey", and it describes their journey of discovering the strength, vulnerability, and sheer joy released when people support each other in sound.
B2: Understanding Your Dreams Pamela Thrift During this session Pamela will discuss flying dreams, nightmares, how to know if your dreams are prophetic and why your dreams can be a fountain of guidance and healing for your day-to-day life. We will look at how dream work teaches you to understand your dreams and to align them with your soul’s purpose. The "Eight Step Process" that Pamela has developed will also be introduced 12:30pm – 1:30pm Cold Buffet Lunch @ Altos 1:30pm – 3:30pm KEYNOTE ADDRESS Creative Programs with an Interdisiciplinary Flair Michele Nolta Description How can we do more? This session presents a collection of creative ideas oriented toward staff teamwork. Involving staff into the realm of recreation is a win-win proposition. We can have an energizing effect to improve staff motivation, heighten program variety, and deepen program purpose and meaning for the residents. Objective: By completion of this session the learner will be able to:
